Types of ear problems we treat
Outer ear infection (swimmer's ear) causes pain when the ear is touched, itching and discharge. Middle ear infection often follows a cold and causes deep pain, a blocked feeling and sometimes fever. Wax blockage and pressure problems after flying are also common.
Examination and treatment
The doctor looks into the ear with an otoscope to see the canal and eardrum. Treatment depends on the cause and can include ear drops, pain relief, and antibiotics when they are actually needed.
Flying with an ear infection
Flying with a middle ear infection can be very painful and occasionally damages the eardrum. The doctor advises whether you should fly, what to take before the flight, and can issue a fit-to-fly certificate if needed.
Questions
Can I swim with an ear infection?
Usually not until it has healed. The doctor will tell you when it is safe.
Do I need antibiotics?
Not always. Many ear infections settle with drops and pain relief. The doctor decides after examining the ear.
Can children be treated at the hotel?
Yes. Ear infections are one of the most common reasons for children's visits.
