IV therapy

IV therapy in Istanbul, assessed by a doctor first

An IV drip can help you recover quickly when you are dehydrated and cannot keep fluids down. At IstanbulDoc every IV treatment starts with a doctor's examination. We give a drip in your hotel room or at home only when it is medically appropriate for you, and we tell you honestly when it is not.

Why a medical assessment comes first

IV fluids are a medical treatment, not a wellness product. Before anything is given, the doctor checks your symptoms, blood pressure, heart rate, medicines, allergies and existing conditions. Kidney and heart conditions, some medicines and pregnancy can change what is safe.

If a drip is not right for you, the doctor explains why and offers another treatment, such as medication to stop vomiting and an oral rehydration plan.

When IV fluids help

The most common reason is dehydration from vomiting and diarrhoea, often after food poisoning or a stomach virus. IV fluids are also used when you are too weak or nauseous to drink, after heat exhaustion, and in some cases during recovery from illness.

Anti-nausea medicine and other treatments can be given through the same line when the doctor decides they are needed.

What happens during an IV visit

The doctor or nurse places a small cannula in your arm and the drip runs for about 30 to 60 minutes while you rest. The doctor monitors how you feel, removes the line at the end and explains what to eat and drink over the next day.

When hospital treatment is safer

Severe dehydration, blood in vomit or stool, high fever that won't come down, severe abdominal pain or confusion need a hospital. We will tell you if your situation needs one.

Questions

Can I get an IV drip in my hotel room?

Yes, after a doctor examines you and decides it is appropriate. The visit takes about an hour in total.

Is IV therapy suitable for everyone?

No. The doctor checks your medicines, allergies and health conditions first. A drip is given only when it is medically appropriate.

Do you offer vitamin drips for hangovers or energy?

Our IV service is medical and starts with an assessment. If you are dehydrated, the doctor treats that. We don't give drips that aren't medically needed.
